The Soul Still Remains is a committed narrative, I would say an intimate one. Luis Casadevall, as far as I can tell, does not denounce or criticize through his photos; he simply bears witness with the resources at his disposal and shows us what he has seen. And that visual testimony, expressed with more cries of pain than with laughter and shouts of joy, is what now envelops the soul of this city—which is my city, and which, heartbreakingly, resembles less and less each day the city it should be. Yet I trust that its soul, if it truly is a soul and behaves as such, will therefore be immortal. Amen.
